Want a Peaceful Room? Create one using silent space

The world as it is now is not the most quiet or peaceful place. With technology everywhere, it’s all just a huge mess of technology and wires. There’s a constant chatter everywhere, and it is unavoidable. With every single day, disconcerted people look for safe havens to escape the rigors of daily lives. Homes are by far the only sanctuary, and even there you cannot escape the hustle and bustle is hard to escape. This is where a silent space comes in.

Whether the silent space is a single room or whether it is just a spot anywhere around your house, your silent space is yours alone. It’s a place where you can retreat to and simply relax and move away from the all the hassles of daily life. Your silent space is your “peaceful room”, and nothing can trouble you there.

In order to build your silent space, you need to be mindful of some key aspects:

The Status

The very first aspect to decide is whether your silent space is accessible to you alone or are other people allowed there. Since it is your peaceful room, you are the one who gets to decide everything about it. One thing is for sure, whether with people or alone, this place is your retreat.

Location

The location is absolutely key. The silent space needs to be as far away from noise as possible. If you pick your silent space next to the front street or neighbours, you are bound to hear a lot of noise still and can end up listening to more unsettling and disturbing noise. You essentially need to pick a place that you find comfortable and has the most minimal noise exposure.

Accessories

Every single object next to or inside your safe space needs to be carefully picked and adjusted. Make sure to keep your door shut, and any gaping spaces sealed to prevent any sound from coming in. A privacy lock on the inside can be attached to preserve your privacy.

The acoustics of the room should be carefully selected and placed. Any metallic objects, heavy glass, noisy glass windows should be removed. Anything that makes noise even when it gets scratched, such as furniture needs to moved away from the room. If you happen to write inside your silent space, use pens instead of pencils for less noise pollution.

Lighting is another key factor. Although the room needs to be well lit, it should not be distracting. Any bright light should be ignored in favor for dim lights. Even if more dim lights are needed, they provide you with more comfort.

Rules

When you’re done setting it up, make sure your peaceful room has no electronic disturbances such as TV or mobile phones. Furthermore, no one should be admitted inside except for your family. It’s a safe and silent space for you and your loved ones, not for others.

Once you have set everything up, you will surely feel the quality of your life improving.
